This is the fourth year of the rate thread and the rules are the same as always. Real numbers, your trade, and roughly how long you have been working for yourself. No ranges so wide they are useless.
I will start. Illustration, eight years, $680 for a full day of editorial work and $950 for commercial. Two years ago those numbers were $420 and $600, and the only thing that changed was that I read this thread.

Bookkeeping, six years, $55 an hour with a four-hour minimum. I moved from $40 in January after this thread last year and lost exactly one client, who was the worst one.

Type design does not really price by the day, but for the sake of the thread: custom lettering starts at $2,400 for a single wordmark, and a full text family is a five-figure project measured in months.
The number that matters more than the rate is the deposit. Fifty percent up front, non-refundable, and I have not had a project evaporate since I started asking for it.
