Sourdough Sunday began as a thread about a starter that would not rise. Two hundred replies later, someone suggested meeting in a park and handing out jars. That is still the shape of the group: a lot of conversation, punctuated by people physically giving each other bread.
The group is deliberately unfussy. Members post schedules that fit around night shifts, ovens that run hot, and flour that was on sale. Precision is welcome but never required.
Newer members tend to arrive with one specific problem — a flat loaf, a sour smell, a starter that died on holiday. There is almost always someone who has had the same problem twice.
Bring a loaf or a jar of starter, leave with someone else’s. Nobody counts.
Post a photo of the inside of your loaf and the group will tell you what your dough was trying to say.
Going away? Someone in the group will keep your starter alive and hand it back fed.
